Setting up eduroam network on Windows 7

In case you're a student or faculty member of a university, that provides access to the eduroam network, you can use credentials provided by your university.

Open Start->Control Panel->Network and Sharing Centre.

There, click on Manage wireless networks.

In the Manage wireless networks window, choose Add and select Manually create a network profile.

In the next step, enter and choose the following information:

  • Network name: eduroam
  • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type: AES
  • Leave the Security Key textbox blank

Click on Next, system Windows should automatically add the eduroam wireless network.

Return to the Manage wireless networks window and either double-click on the recently added network eduroam or right-click the eduroam option and choose Properties.

Next, set up eduroam as shown on pictures below:

On the Security tab, click on Settings, then in the newly opened window uncheck the Validate server certificate option. Next, click on Configure, uncheck "Automatically use any Windows logon name and password (and domain, if any)" option and then confirm everything with OK.

On the Security tab, click on Advanced settings, in the newly opened window check the Specify authentication mode option and choose User authentication. By clicking on Save credentials, you can save your credentials provided, so that you need not enter them every time. Afterwards, confirm everything with OK, until all windows are closed.

Now, your computer should be able to connect to the eduroam network.
