INFORMATION REGARDING ACCOMMODATION FEES AT COMENIUS UNIVERSITY’S MLYNY AND DRUŽBA DORMITORIES
Dear students,
I wish to address all of those who are accommodated in our university's facilities (the Ľudovít Štúr Campus - Mlyny and Družba VI) at this challenging time in connection with the many questions that you have about the further functioning of the dormitories. The university executive realizes that in the current situation many of you and your families are struggling with income cuts. We are all in a difficult situation, our university included. We are trying to find options and solutions that work for you, while also not fundamentally affecting the core operations of the dormitories.
Therefore, I am asking you not to pay the accommodation fee (in Slovak: bytné) for the month of April 2020. Those of you who have already paid this fee will be automatically refunded to the bank account from which the payment was sent. Once various legal issues, which I will not go into here, are resolved, you will be formally informed by means of a written decision on this matter.
Please also be assured that unless we receive a directive to act otherwise by the relevant state authorities, your rooms will remain untouched with the exception of the removal of rubbish and perishable food for hygienic reasons. All entries into your rooms will be properly documented. Should it be necessary to handle your personal belonging in any way, you will be informed of this immediately.
Those of you who have remained in the dormitories (employees, international students, and some domestic students with special circumstances) will pay the normal accommodation fee for April by the due date in accordance with your accommodation contract.
The situation will be continuously evaluated in the coming months, and you will be informed of developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in the second half of this semester. We are considering returning a portion of the accommodation fee for March 2020 as soon as it is clear how the dormitories will continue to operate. However, this issue can be dealt with only once this crisis has ended.
I therefore ask for your understanding and patience.
Unfortunately, in the current situation it is not possible to allow entry into your rooms. The state authorities have expressly advised against travel, whatever the reason may be. Please be patient.
Thank you to everyone who is supporting us. Keeping the dormitories in operation is very difficult at the moment, but we are doing everything we can to keep them in good working order so that we will be able to continue providing you with affordable accommodation.
All up-to-date information from the university is available on the www.uniba.sk/en web site as well as on the university’s official accounts on social networks. Please check this information regularly.
I wish you all the best, I hope you and those close to you stay in good health, and I trust that we will all have the fortitude to get through these current challenges.
