Coronavirus: Practical guidelines for travelling abroad

In relation to the current spread of coronavirus (2019-nCoV), Comenius University in Bratislava has suggested the following guidelines for those travelling to affected areas:

  • follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic
  • continually monitor the situation and assess it in a diligent manner so that there is adequate time to take measures as required (examples are given below)
  • consider having adequate travel insurance (e.g., for air tickets) 
  • find out the contact details of the Slovak embassy in the destination country (should there be no embassy in that country, then the embassy in the closest country)

Prevention and minimizing measures include:

  • adhering to the common rules of hygiene
  • changing the dates of mobility stays, international meetings, and similar events
  • changing the destination country, if this is possible
  • choosing a suitable form of travel insurance that would cover at least a part of travel expenses; buying an air ticket with the possibility to cancel the booking at no cost; buying accommodation with the possibility to cancel the booking at no cost
