CU IMPROVES ITS POSITION IN THE QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS
Bratislava, 18 June 2026: QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) today published its ranking of the world’s top universities for 2027. In the latest edition, QS, one of the world’s most widely followed university ranking organisations, placed Comenius University Bratislava (CU) 662nd. CU has therefore improved on last year’s 684th place and remains the highest-ranked university in Slovakia.
The world’s top universities are Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Imperial College London and Stanford University.
Five other Slovak universities also appear in the ranking. Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava is ranked 951st–1000th, while the Technical University of Košice and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice share 1001st–1200th place. The University of Žilina and the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra are both ranked 1201st–1400th.
The QS WUR assesses universities using nine weighted indicators: academic reputation (30%), citations per faculty (20%), employer reputation (15%), employment outcomes (5%), international research network (5%), international student ratio (5%), international faculty ratio (5%), faculty-student ratio (10%) and sustainability (5%). In the employment outcomes indicator, CU rose to 125th place.
The QS World University Rankings are among the world’s leading university rankings and have assessed universities since 2004. This year’s ranking lists 1,504 top higher education institutions from 106 locations worldwide.
“I am pleased that Comenius University has improved its position in the QS WUR, even though rankings do not always objectively reflect the quality of an institution. This news follows our excellent result in the periodic VER (Verification of Excellence in Research) assessment. Any improvement is primarily due to the work of our university community, for which we try to create the best possible conditions,” said CU Rector Marek Števček
