STU and CU offer help to young people in Belarus
Bratislava, August 19, 2020: Comenius University in Bratislava and Slovak Technical University are closely observing the situation in Belarus. We have registered an initiative of The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Ivan Korčok, aimed at helping young people in Belarus who have been in trouble at home for their opinions.

The rectors of the two largest and best Slovak universities, Mr. Miroslav Fikar (STU) and Mr. Marek Stevcek (CU) expressed their support to this initiative, while proactively reaching out the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the offer of cooperation and assistance in its implementation. Both universities are ready to assist the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to provide the necessary organisational, management or accommodation capacities, as well as support to Belarusian students in their studies in Slovakia.
At the end of the letter, the rectors expressed the hope that the situation in Belarus, even with the contribution of Slovak diplomacy activities, would be quickly able to get to normal, especially with regard to the life prospects of young people in Belarus. The leaders of our two top universities condemn the brutal violence by the Belarusian security forces. We believe that an educated young generation will help to set the country's course towards the values of democracy and humanism that are crucial to our universities.
