Center for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials
Opportunities for Collaboration in Materials Research
The Center for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (CENAM) at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Comenius University Bratislava is one of the leading institutions in the field of thin-film materials research for a wide range of applications. We offer state-of-the-art technologies, a highly skilled team, and a proven track record of successful projects and collaborations – both national and international. Our primary focus is on the development, preparation and analysis of thin films and coatings, and research in a wide range of their application, where we use progressive deposition techniques, advanced analytical methods, and computational modelling of materials.
We are open to collaboration – whether with other faculties of the Comenius University, other universities, research institutions, or companies from a wide range of industries.

What We Offer
- Thin Film and Coating Processing Technologies. We offer various physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques designed to deliver precise and versatile solutions for a wide range of applications. These methods take into account specific material and surface requirements, enhancing the performance and efficiency of thin films and coatings in both research and industrial environments.
- Surface Morphological Analysis. We use advanced imaging and analytical techniques (SEM, SPM) to provide detailed insights into surface morphology. These analyses help optimize material properties, leading to improved functionality and higher performance of thin films and coatings in various applications.
- Compositional and Structural Analysis. Using sophisticated methods (EDS, WDS, XPS, XRD), we enable in-depth characterization of chemical composition and structure. This supports innovation and ensures quality control, particularly in the development and production of high-quality films and coatings.
- Analysis of Physical Properties. We evaluate a broad range of material properties, including mechanical, electrical, optical, and thermal characteristics, to ensure that the materials meet the specific requirements of their intended applications. This is essential for verifying the suitability of thin films and coatings for use in electronics, energy, aerospace, and other industries.
- First-Principles Materials Modelling. With advanced computational techniques (Quantum Espresso, VASP), we offer first-principles simulations to predict material behavior. This approach speeds up the development of new coatings and thin films by allowing for virtual testing of material properties, reducing both development time and costs.
Our solutions are of high-quality, flexible, and tailored to our partners’ needs – from academic research to real-world industrial applications.
If you are interested in collaboration or would like a non-binding consultation, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to discuss potential collaboration tailored to your needs.
Sincerely,
Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Tomáš Plecenik, PhD.
