Comenius University is in the top hundred
Bratislava, 9 April 2019: Comenius University in Bratislava has done well in the THE University Impact Ranking 2019, which focuses on the long-term development goals of the UN. This ranking, which Times Higher Education created for the first time as a part of its overall THE World University Ranking, placed Comenius University 76th.
The first edition of this ranking includes 450 universities from 76 countries which are assessed upon the basis of eleven criteria of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) focusing on three broad areas: research, outreach, and stewardship. The ranking of Comenius University in the top 100, with an overall SDG score of 78.4, was influenced by four factors: quality education (SDG score of 73.3), which has the aim of providing inclusive and fair learning opportunities and continuing education; peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG score of 77.1), which promotes peace, inclusion, and justice in society for long-term sustainability as well as the building of responsible institutions; good health and well-being (SDG score of 74.3); and the strengthening of the means of the implementation and revitalization of global partnerships for sustainable development (SDG score of 50.2 to 68.5). No other Slovak or Czech university placed in the top 100 in this ranking.
The University of Auckland (New Zealand), with an SDG score of 97.2, was placed first. Second place went to McMaster University (Canada) with an SDG score of 96.6; and third place went to the University of British Columbia (Canada) alongside the University of Manchester (Great Britain), which both had an SDG score of 96.2. The ranking included one other Slovak university: the Technical University in Košice had an SDG score range of 23.8 to 53.6.
In the overall THE WUR ranking for 2017, Comenius University was placed in the 601st to 800th band.
