Comenius University one of the recipients of the Technology Transfer Award
Comenius University, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Masaryk University in Brno received an award for their technology transfer initiative. The award honours the best innovators, innovations and initiatives in the area of technology transfer among Slovak public and state-funded research institutions. The awards were presented during COINTT 2023, the largest technology transfer conference in Slovakia, which took place on 24 and 25 October, 2023.
In the Technology Transfer Initiatives category the award was given to the cooperation of the Technology Transfer Centre of the Comenius University Science Park in Bratislava, the Technology Transfer Centre of the Technology and Innovation Park of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and the Technology Transfer Centre at the Masaryk University in Brno. This cooperation resulted in a successful transfer of industrial property rights and patent rights to a "Method for non-invasive testing of vitro fertilization success rate". This marks the first time that industrial property rights were transferred by a university in Slovakia. The award was received on behalf of the project team by Jozef Masarik, Vice-rector of Comenius University for Science, Lenka Levarská from the Science Park of Comenius University, Laura Bachňáková Rózenfeldová from UPJŠ, and Jana Daňková and Eva Janouškovcová from Masaryk University.
A team from the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice received an award in the Innovation category. Their project included an artificial lung ventilator. Nikola Čajová Kantová from the University of Žilina won the Innovator category for her research of fuel analysis and ways of reducing emissions of solid pollutants.
In its fourth year the COINTT 2023 conference provided a forum for discussion and exchange of information between the scientific and business communities. This year’s focus was on gaps in innovation and technology transfer in Slovakia. These are important topics that merit a discussion to enhance technology transfer opportunities between academia and business practice in Slovakia. The event was organised by the Technology Transfer Centre of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information which is operated by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
