The Faculty of Medicine Will Once Again Be Led by Professor Juraj Šteňo
On 23 October 2018, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava re-elected Professor Juraj Šteňo to the position of the faculty’s dean with a term of office lasting from 1 February 2019 to 31 January 2023.
Eighty-one of the eighty-three members of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Medicine attended a special senate meeting, and the senate was judged to have the necessary quorum to conduct business. Professor Juraj Šteňo was re-elected to the position of the faculty's dean in the first round of voting by a three-fifths majority of senate members.
Professor Šteňo started his teaching activity at the Neurosurgery Clinic after completing his studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava. Currently he teaches at the same faculty. He is also the external head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Slovak Medical University. He is the guarantor of the study programme in Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine. From 1996 to 2010, he was a lecturer at the Training Committee of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, where he regularly lectured on its courses. He was also a member of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies’ Examination Commission. He has also received many important awards, including the 2017 Crystal Wing for Lifetime Achievement.
He will commence his second term in office as faculty dean on 1 February 2019 following his appointment to the position by the Comenius University Rector upon the advice of the academic senate.
