CU the only Slovak university in NTU Ranking
Bratislava, 13 October 2020: Comenius University Bratislava achieved a significant success in the NTU Ranking. In the subject of physics it ranked 252nd in the world and improved its ranking by 18 places compared to the past year. NTU Ranking compares the scientific activity of universities worldwide based strictly on academic publication activity assessed from three perspectives - research productivity, research reach and research excellence. CU is the only Slovak university in the ranking.
This year's NTU ranking (National Taiwan University Ranking) offers an overall ranking of universities along with an assessment in six disciplines and 24 subjects. Overall, the CU ranks in 601st - 650th place, which is a step up from 651st - 700th place compared to last year. In natural sciences it ranks on the 401st - 450th place, confirming its position from last year.
Top ranking institutions include Harvard University, Stanford University and the University of Toronto. Three Czech universities made it into the ranking - Charles University in Prague (200th place), Masaryk University in Brno (651st - 700th place) and the Czech Technical University in Prague (701st - 750th place).
In terms of research productivity the ranking examines the number of publications in the past 11 years and their number in the past year. The research impact aspect takes into account the number of citations in the past 11 years and their number in the past two years, as well as the average number of citations over 11 years. The most important criterion, with a weight of 40%, is research excellence. This aspect evaluates the H-index, the number of highly cited publications and the number of articles in high-impact journals in the past year.
Comenius University is the only Slovak university which made it into other rankings as well. This year, it is ranked 601st - 700th in the Shanghai ranking. It is currently ranked 394th in the worldwide Round University Ranking. It ranks 563th in the prestigious Best Global Universities ranking and 701st - 750th in the QS World University Rankings.
