Hana Mizerová received the For Women in Science Award

Hana Šmitala Mizerová from Comenius University Bratislava won the L'Oréal - UNESCO For Women in Science Award, in the category of formal science.

She works at the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics. In her research she focuses on mathematical models of the flow of fluids, liquids and gases that occurs in many natural phenomena and engineering applications. These include, among others, the flow of blood in blood vessels, weather forecasting, air pollution, car design or airflow around an airplane wing.

During the award ceremony on 28 September 2022, awards were also given to Xiaolu Hou from the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava in the category of engineering science and technologies, and Soňa Kucharíková from the University in Trnava, in the category of life sciences, including environmental sciences. They shared 15,000 euros, which they can use towards their research and other goals.

The L'Oréal - UNESCO For Women in Science talent programme which supports female researchers working in Slovakia has entered its sixth year. The Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Slovak Organization for Research and Development Activities and the Slovak Commission for UNESCO also support on the program.
