AmosFest: Comenius University establishes a new tradition
Bratislava, 21 September 2016: The pilot year of the AmosFest students’ festival will take place on Tuesday 27 September 2016 under the auspices of the Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta.
The festival will take place at the Ľudovít Štúr Campus–Mlyny. The students’ section of the Comenius University Academic Senate are the festival’s organizers.
This event intends to create a space for the university’s faculties and the student organizations based there (e.g., the European Law Students’ Association, the Bratislava Medical Students’ Association, and the Slovak Pharmaceutical Students’ Association) to promote themselves and strengthen the relationship between students and Comenius University, and to motivate students to become involved in interest groups while they are studying. AmosFest is being organized as a forerunner to the approaching 100th anniversary of the founding of Comenius University, which will take place in 2019.
"AmosFest is a new type of student event, which aims to create a space where students, graduates, and staff from various faculties of Comenius University can informally meet, and where new students can be welcomed and matriculated’ into university studies," said Róbert Zsembera, a student at the Faculty of Education, on behalf of the initiators of the event.
A large part of the event will be taken up with sporting activities such as football, basketball, floorball, table football, and even chess. Accompanying activities include presentations by student organizations, travel cinema, and card, board, and parlour games. An interesting part of the event will also include discussions, for instance, on how to make a business out of a good idea, and conversations with Slovak athletes who competed at this year’s 31st Olympic Games in Rio.
"I welcome this student initiative, which is a way of presenting their sense of belonging to the university and what it represents. I am sure that this event will be the start of a lovely tradition, which will culminate in the centennial celebrations of our university in 2019," said Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta.
