Comenius University is once again among the world’s elite
Bratislava, 6 December 2017: In the Round University Ranking’s category of Natural Sciences, Comenius University was ranked 240th. Overall and as the only Slovak university to feature in the ranking, Comenius University was ranked 433rd in the world.
In the category of Medical Sciences, Comenius University was ranked 279th, which is an improvement on 2016 by 37 places. The university placed 285th in the Humanities, 430th in the Social Sciences, and 356th in the Life Sciences categories. In three categories, Comenius University received a Silver League ranking, which means it is in the top 300 universities in that field.
The ranking, which uses data going back to 2010, evaluates twenty indicators in four core areas: education (40 %), research (40 %), international diversity (10 %), and financial sustainability (10 %). The ranking assessed the world’s top 930 universities, from 80 countries, and their performance over the previous eight years.

The first place in the ranking was taken by Harvard University, followed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the University of Chicago. In fourth place was Imperial College London, which was followed by Stanford University in fifth place. The Round University Ranking is one of several world rankings which evaluate universities. In the U.S. News & World Report ranking for 2018, which was also announced in the last few days, Comenius University was ranked 511th as the best university in Slovakia. Other Slovak universities featured in this ranking: Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was placed 894th and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava was placed 1065th.
