Gaudeamus Igitur will be heard seventy times this year: Restrictions have been lifted from summer graduation ceremonies
Bratislava, 27 June 2022: The string of summer graduation ceremonies at Comenius University has just started. This year, at the beginning of June, the first students to graduate were from the Faculty of Roman Catholic Theology of Cyril and Methodius. Since last Friday, graduation ceremonies have been taking place in CU’s Auditorium almost every workday. On some days, up to five ceremonies are celebrated. Students of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine attend their graduation ceremonies in Martin. Finally, after two years, restrictions imposed on these public ceremonies have been lifted.
As many as seventy graduation ceremonies of the new Bachelor, Master and Doctor degree holders are scheduled to take place during the course of June and July. To this date, 2 246 students of Master’s and combined Bachelor’s and Master’s studies have successfully completed their programmes. There are 1 512 graduates of Bachelor’s studies. State exams are still being held and some students will take remedial exams in August. This means that graduation ceremonies will also take place in September.
„The Graduation Ceremony is a formal, celebratory conclusion of university study. I am pleased that this year, graduates who have worked towards their titles over several years, can finally be joined by their closest relatives and friends and receive their diplomas in a public ceremony,“ said the Rector of Comenius University Marek Števček.
Relatives or friends who are unable to attend the ceremony can watch a live online broadcast from the CU Auditorium which is streamed by the university on its YouTube channel in real time. The streaming is free, so relatives can decide whether they will participate in person in the historic Auditorium or support their graduate at a distance. Recordings of all of this year's promotion ceremonies will remain available online.
On June 24, the graduates of the Faculty of Law who obtained their degrees fifty years ago, could re-live the moment during a 'Golden graduation ceremony’. Similarly, at the start of May, a fifty-year commemmorative ceremony was held for degree-holders from the Faculty of Medicine.
