COMENIUS UNIVERSITY IS VISITED BY A DELEGATION FROM THE CHINESE MINISTRY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

On Monday 27 November 2017, Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta, welcomed a Chinese delegation led by the Chinese State Secretary for Science and Technology, Li Meng. Other Comenius University representatives present included the Vice-Rector for Science and Post-Graduate Study, Professor Peter Moczo; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Juraj Šteňo; the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Professor Jozef Masarik; and the Vice-Dean for Science and International Relations at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Professor Miroslav Bielik.

The Chinese delegation included the representative of the general director of the Department for International Relations, Chen Linha; the representative of the general director of the Department for Development and Innovation, Zhang Xu; the representative of the general director of the Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, Zhao Zhiyun; the head of the Department for European and Asian Affairs of the Section for International Cooperation, Zhou Yu; the representative of the head of the Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Xiao Wei; the ambassador of the Chinese People’s Republic to Slovakia, Lin Lin; the ambassador’s representative and adviser, Zhou Qian; and the head of the Department for Politics, Culture, and Education and spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in Bratislava, Wang Ruixiang.


Professor Peter Moczo and the other members of the Comenius University leadership presented the university to their guests and emphasized its scientific and research activities; they also presented the Confucius Institute at Comenius University, which started operating in September 2015. 

The discussion on areas of potential cooperation between Comenius University and Chinese university partners and companies focused on the possibilities for applied research offered at the Comenius University Science Park at Mlynská dolina and the success of the university in using research results in industry and for the benefit of all of society. Both sides showed an interest in expanding and deepening partnerships in the area of exchanging students, doctoral researchers, and young scientists as well as in creating joint laboratories and working together on joint scientific projects. 

State Secretary Li Meng informed the meeting about the freshly-signed bilateral governmental grant agreement with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, which should significantly enable this cooperation to prosper.
