The Comenius University Rector Welcomes the Dutch Ambassador
Today Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta, welcomed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Slovak Republic, Henk Cor van der Kwast, to the university. Both men expressed an interest in continuing the tradition of mutual contacts and university lectures and highlighted the intensive academic and research cooperation taking place so far.
Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta, informed the Dutch ambassador about the partnership between Comenius University and the University of Groningen as well as Erasmus University Rotterdam. He also referred to Comenius University’s membership in the Utrecht Network, which will be hosted by the university in Bratislava in April 2018. The ambassador also learned about other important international activities in connection with the university’s centennial celebrations, including the annual UNICA (Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe) general and anniversary meetings and the Danube Rectors’ Conference, all of which are to be held at the university next year.
Ambassador Henk van der Kwast offered the cooperation of the Dutch embassy in helping with the preparation of next year’s Cleveringa lecture at the university in November 2018. He also announced the intention to hold a symposium on the history of bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Slovakia on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Slovak Republic. The rector proposed this event include the participation of experts from the university’s Faculty of Arts.
Their discussion also included the exchange of students, researchers, scientists, and teachers, as well as cooperation on research projects, including those within the framework of the Comenius University Science Park at Mlynská dolina.
