CU Bratislava introduces a new study program in hockey coaching

Officials from Comenius University Bratislava and representatives of its Faculty of Physical...

A delegation from a Finnish university visited the premises of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports at Comenius University, where talks continued on a joint degree programme in ice hockey coaching. The partners agreed that most of the terms of cooperation had already been settled and that, once the remaining technical details are finalized, the agreement on the study programme could be signed by the end of May this year.
“With the Ice Hockey World Championship just around the corner, we all know the old saying — every Slovak is a hockey coach. But what we truly need are real professionals in the field of coaching. That is why I am extremely pleased that we have managed to establish cooperation with experts from both the Slovak and international sports community. The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports at Comenius University has been developing sporting talent for decades, so it is only natural that it should also educate the people who will guide these talents on their path to victory,” said Comenius University Rector Marek Števček at the opening of the meeting.
The programme will operate as a double degree scheme, meaning graduates will receive diplomas from both universities, and is expected to launch in the 2027/2028 academic year. The Finnish side described the project as an extension of an existing study programme, while the Slovak side still faces an accreditation process, which the university expects to complete by autumn 2026.
The Slovak Ice Hockey Federation will also join the project
The partners aim to strengthen the practical component of the programme, including professional internships and cooperation with clubs. According to participants at the meeting, linking university education, the national sports federation and hands-on practice could create a unique model of sports education in Central Europe.
Representatives from both countries also discussed differences between the Slovak and Finnish systems of coach and youth development. They agreed that high-quality coach education is one of the key prerequisites for smaller hockey nations to remain competitive against major powers such as the United States and Canada.
In the future, cooperation between the universities is not expected to be limited to student exchanges alone. The partners also plan to develop staff mobility and joint research activities. The Finnish representatives described the planned programme as a significant opportunity for both countries, which share a long-standing hockey tradition and a common interest in advancing sports education.

Postdoctoral Research Position in Electron–Molecule and Electron–Cluster Processes for Astrochemistry

The Department of Experimental Physics offers a postdoctoral position related to the project on...

The main objective of this postdoctoral project is the study of electron–molecule and electron-cluster ionization reactions, using the crossed-beam method combined with mass spectrometry(CEMBIA – a crossed-beam electron–molecule instrument and with CLUSTER-ILN – an electron–cluster beam system). Additionally, electron-induced excitation processes and ion–molecule reactions may be studied as complementary experiments conducted within the same research group. All these results can provide valuable insights into the kinetics of various processes — including evaluations of relative cross seccions, threshold energies, and the efficiency of individual reaction channels, of astrophysically relevant molecular targets.
The postdoctoral position will begin on October 1st, 2026, with a duration of one year and the possibility of extension for up to three years. We welcome candidates with skills and experience in operating experimental setups, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presenting at international conferences.

Wednesday 20.5.2026 at 14:00, Lecture room F1/364

Ing. Jakub Kaizer, PhD.:
Distribution of 3H and 14C in the Pacific Ocean and its connection with climate change
Abstract:
Tritium 3H (T1/2 = 12.3 y) and radiocarbon 14C (T1/2 = 5730 y) have been long recognized as powerful tools to trace movement of seawater masses, and various physical, geochemical and biological processes in the oceans. During the last three decades, their content in the Pacific Ocean surface and deep waters have been screened several times. Based on these datasets, we investigated spatial and temporal changes in 3H and 14C concentrations in the Pacific Ocean over the last thirty years. The main goal of the study was to evaluate whether the distribution patterns of the radionuclides of interest were potentially modified within the prevailing climate change, which has been affecting, e.g., stratification of global ocean.

The Faculty of Law of Comenius University Bratislava (PraF UK) organized the third annual full-day event entitled “Day of Opportunities 2026” on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. The aim of the event, which can be described as a job and internship fair, was to strengthen the faculty’s cooperation with partners from the public sector, including partners with whom the faculty has concluded memoranda of cooperation, while also providing students with opportunities to gain practical experience, internships, and future employment.
The opening ceremony was attended by Eduard Burda, Dean of the Faculty of Law of Comenius University Bratislava, and Laura Fotopulosová, Vice Dean for Collaboration with the Professional Community and Continuing Education. Among the distinguished guests were Milan Hodas, First State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, and Martin Rímeš, Director General of the Personnel and Social Affairs Section of the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic. Dean Burda welcomed the fact that the event has become firmly established among the faculty’s traditional activities, emphasizing the importance of linking academia and legal practice.
The event programme also included four expert lectures providing students with practical information on a range of interesting topics. Anna Peťovská, Director of the Legal Aid Centre, accepted the invitation and, together with her team, delivered an engaging lecture on the Centre’s activities entitled “The Right Choice for a Student Internship.” The Centre currently operates 15 regional offices and 43 consultation centres throughout Slovakia. This was followed by the lecture “From Judicial Assistant to the Bench: Navigating the Career Path”, in which representatives of the Office of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic explained how to prepare for a job interview and pursue a career in the judiciary. Representatives of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic then presented career opportunities within the armed forces. The programme concluded with a lecture entitled “Influencers – Regulatory Basics”, during which representatives of the Council for Media Services explained what every future lawyer should know about influencers and outlined the Council’s powers in the regulation of online content.
We would like to thank the representatives of fourteen public sector institutions for participating in the event.
Doctoral colloquium - Aisha Suleiman Umar (18.5.2026)

Monday 18.5.2026 at 13:10, Lecture room I 9

Aisha Suleiman Umar:
Formal Verification of the Consistency of Explainable AI in Cyber-Physical Systems
Abstract:
As Deep Learning (DL) models are increasingly integrated into the control loops of safety-critical Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), such as smart grids, autonomous vehicles and industrial robotics, the black-box nature of these models poses a significant barrier to trust and regulatory compliance. While Explainable AI (XAI) aims to provide transparency, current post-hoc explanation methods are often heuristic, computationally unstable, and lack formal guarantees. Specifically, the consistency problem where small, non-semantic perturbations in input lead to radically different explanations, remains a critical vulnerability that can mislead human operators or mask adversarial attacks.
A crucial but underexplored aspect is the formal verification of the consistency of these explanations: ensuring that explanations are robust, reliable, and faithfully reflect model behavior across different scenarios. This research review synthesizes recent literature on the intersection of formal verification, explanation consistency, and XAI in CPS, highlighting current approaches, evaluation strategies, limitations, and open research directions.
