In the last five years Comenius University has maintained its place in the seventh hundred of universities but managed to climb about 50 places during this period. It is the best rated of Slovak universities. Two other universities from Slovakia made it to the ranking, placing in the second thousand of institutions.

The CWUR ranking evaluates the quality of education, alumni employment, quality of teachers and research performance based on 4 indicators:

  • quality of education - measured by the number of a university's alumni who have won major academic distinctions relative to the university's size (25%),
  • alumni employment - measured by the number of a university's alumni who have held top executive positions at the world's largest companies relative to the university's size (25%),
  • quality of faculty - measured by the number of faculty members who have won major academic distinctions (10%),
  • research performance - measured by the number of research papers, the quality of the journals in which they are published, and citations (40%).

The data is collected independently of other surveys or information provided by universities themselves. The ranking is one of several international rankings which evaluate universities around the world.

The top positions in the ranking are occupied by U.S. universities - Harvard University, MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University.

Other worldwide university rankings are being published at the time, including the Round University Ranking, in which CU took 404th position worldwide, or THE Impact Rankings, where CU ranks 301st-400th. In the Shanghai ranking CU ranks 601st - 700th. It places 572nd in the prestigious Best Global Universities ranking and 701st-750th in QS World University Rankings. In the NTU Ranking (National Taiwan University Ranking), it scored an exceptional success in physics, placing 252nd worldwide in 2020. THE WUR ranking places CU on position 1001+.
