We Preserve our Position in THE Impact Rankings
Bratislava, 5 June 2023: Comenius University Bratislava was ranked in the 601st-800th place band of the 2023 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings and is the best-ranked school in Slovakia. It ranked highest in the ‘Peace, justice and strong institutions’ indicator, placing 77th worldwide. The indicator evaluates research in the areas of peace and justice, the university's actions in this area - for example the fight against corruption, cooperation with the government and the proportion of graduates of law, and social responsibility. THE Impact Rankings is one of the rankings that assess universities against UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
The assessment is divided into 17 indicators, including, among others, gender equality, affordable and clean energy or climate action. Institutions are included in the ranking if they complete at least four of the 17 indicators. This year's edition evaluates 1591 universities from 112 countries and regions of the world.
"Comenius University Bratislava was ranked 601st-800th, same as last year, consolidating its position among higher education institutions in the expanding ranking," says CU Rector Marek Števček. In addition to placing 77th overall in peace, justice and strong institutions, the university was ranked 201st-300th in good health and wellbeing, 601st-800th in the quality of education and 801st-1000th in partnerships for the goals.
Participating universities can choose the indicators in which they want to be evaluated and ‘partnerships for achieving goals’ is the only mandatory indicator. Indicators are grouped into three categories – policies adopted by the institution, activities contributing to the fulfilment of the goals and indicators of progress towards goals.
The ranking evaluated six universities from Slovakia. In addition to CU they include PJ Šafárik University in Košice (801st – 1000th band), University of Economics in Bratislava (1001+), Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (1001+), Technical University in Košice (1001+) and Žilina University (1001+). Comenius University is seventh best in the V4 group of countries in 'good health and wellbeing', behind Charles University of Prague and ahead of Masaryk University of Brno and Palacký University of Olomouc. In the 'peace, justice and strong institutions' indicator, CU is second among the universities of the V4 countries, just behind Charles University of Prague.
