Bratislava, 20 November 2025: Comenius University Bratislava (CU) has once again confirmed its position on the global academic scene. Over the past week, it has been ranked in two well‑known international university rankings.
In the subject edition of the so‑called Shanghai Ranking (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, GRAS) for 2025, the university achieved excellent placement in two subjects. The first was Physics, in which it ranked in the 301–400th place band, representing an improvement of 100 places compared to the previous evaluation. The second was Psychology, in which it ranked in the 401–500th place band. In this ranking, Comenius University Bratislava was joined by four other Slovak universities (Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, Technical University in Zvolen, and Technical University of Košice).
The subject edition of the Shanghai Ranking (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, GRAS) evaluates universities across 57 fields. Its methodology includes nine indicators in categories such as excellence of teaching staff, research excellence and impact, and international collaboration. The main Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities, ARWU) was last published in August, where CU appeared—as the only Slovak university—on the shared 901–1000 band.
In addition, CU improved its position by more than 100 places in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, where it ranked 824th. This ranking assesses universities in terms of their social and environmental impact, taking into account not only sustainability commitments but also practical results such as alumni contributions to addressing climate challenges and research focused on UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ranking evaluates universities as educational and research institutions as well as major employers implementing sustainability strategies in their operations. Two other Slovak universities were also included in the ranking (Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in the 1151–1200th place band, and University of Žilina in the 1401–1500 band).
