ONCE AGAIN, COMENIUS UNIVERSITY IS THE ONLY SLOVAK UNIVERSITY IN THE SHANGHAI RANKING
Bratislava, 16 August, 2024: The ranking of universities considered to be one of the three most prestigious ones has published this year's edition. Time and again Comenius University Bratislava is the only Slovak university to be ranked in it, and this year it retained its position from last year, 901st-1000th place.
The prestigious ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities), also known as the Shanghai Ranking, evaluated more than 2,500 educational institutions, producing a list of top 1,000 universities in the world. ARWU is one of the "big three" rankings, along with QS World University Rankings and THE (Times Higher Education). Only one university from our country is represented in the main list of the ranking.
This year, Harvard University has defended its position as the best in the world. There are currently six universities from the Czech Republic in the Shanghai ranking, with Charles University ranked the highest in the 301st-400th position band.
The Shanghai ranking evaluates research and science through six indicators:
- Alumni of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (10%),
- Staff of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (20%),
- Highly Cited Researchers (20%),
- Papers published in Nature and Science (20%),
- Papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index (20%),
- Per capita academic performance of an institution (10%).
