Algebraic Graph Theory Seminar - Jozef Rajník (5.4.2024)

Friday 5.4.2024 at 13:00, Lecture room M/IX (online too)

Jozef Rajník:
Algebraic constructions related to cyclic connectivity
Abstract:
Consider a cubic graph G and a k-edge cut S such that G - S has two components G1 and G2, each containing a cycle, and k is the smallest possible. The value of k is called the cyclic (edge-) connectivity of G and each of G1 and G2 is called a cyclic k-part which we regard as a 3-regular "graph" with k semiedges, formally called a k-pole. In many situations, it is useful to complete each Gi to a cyclically k-connected cubic graph by joining Gi with some suitable k-pole. A k-pole U is called a universal k-adjunct if, for any cyclic k-part M, each possible junction of U and M yields a cyclically k-connected cubic graph. In this talk, we present a lower bound on the order of a universal k-adjunct and various lift constructions that meet this lower bound for even k <= 14. We discuss possibilities for improvements and connections to the cage problem.

Seminar of Graph Theory - Dominika Mihálová (4.4.2024)

Thursday 4.4.2024 at 9:50, Lecture room C

Dominika Mihálová:
On digraphs and their iterated line digraphs
Abstract:
In my presentation, I will report on the project I participated on during the mobility stay on University of Lleida. In that project, we study inner metric parameters of digraphs (such as inner diameter, inner radius, ...) and how these values change considering the line digraph of the considered digraph. Our focus is also on integer sequences that are generated by inner metric parameters of iterated line digraphs. We show recurrence relation for the number of vertices in k-iterated line digraph. With the recurrence equation, we are able to solve a problem of finding the number of words over a given alphabet by avoiding a given set of subwords. The results are shown on the graph families, whose vertices are represented as words over some finite alphabet: De Bruijn, Kautz, Cyclic-Kautz, Square-Free.

Condensed Matter Seminar - Leonid Golub (26.4.2024)

Friday 26.4.2024 at 14:00, Lecture room F1 109

Leonid Golub (University of Regensburg):
Weak localization phenomenon
Abstract:
Weak localization (WL) is a quantum transport phenomenon that occurs due to the interference of electronic de Broglie waves. WL is observed in metals and semiconductors as a correction to the conductivity, which anomalously depends on temperature and magnetic field. This interference can be partially disrupted by various factors such as inter-electron scattering, spin relaxation, or inter-valley scattering and valley-dependent splittings in multi-valley systems. During the talk, we will discuss the calculation of the WL conductivity correction and apply the formalism to the problem of WL in spin-orbit coupled graphene.

In her address to the new professors, the President stressed that the academic title of professor implies a commitment. "What should surely unite all of you is the concern that a free and motivating atmosphere prevails in our universities. That they produce professionally proficient graduates ready to pursue their professions. So that we as a society are better able to rise to the challenges and trials that lie ahead in the future, it is your role to contribute to the wisdom of society. And wisdom is not just accumulated knowledge. It is lived knowledge, which includes a strong value base. And it is values-based education that should be the foundation of society."

Clinical Skills Event 2024

The collaboration between health care professionals is a key aspect to achieve effective and safe...

The project is organized by students from pharmaceutical associations – Slovak Pharmacy Student Association (SPSA) and Association of Pharmacy Students in Kosice (APSK) and students from medical associations – The Bratislava Association of Medics (BSM), The Medical Students of Martin (MKM), The Association of Medics of the Slovak Medical University (SM SZU), The Association of Medical Students of the City of Košice (SMMK) and Slovak Medical Students' Association (SloMSA).
The aim of the project is to highlight the benefits of cooperation between doctors and pharmacists, where doctors bring their medical expertise, while pharmacists have the inside scoop on medications. This year, 22 teams (87 students) and one team from Slovenia consisting of 4 students took part in the competition. The teams, consisting of two pharmacy students and two medical students, were involved in three rounds of competition. In the first round, their role was to answer short questions from clinical pharmacy and medicine within a time limit. In the second and third rounds, participants demonstrate their ability to address therapeutic and diagnostic problems based on selected real-life cases, and to comprehensively evaluate the patient's condition and therapy.  They used their previous knowledge and skills from clinically oriented disciplines such as pharmacology, internal medicine, clinical pharmacy, anatomy, pathophysiology, clinical biochemistry etc. In case reports, they faced problems such as drug interactions and duplication, pharmacotherapy of risk groups of patients and an overall assessment of the patient's health. Case reports were created by assistent prof. Peter Takáč and assistent prof. Monika Holécyová (The University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice), assistent prof. Zuzana Kiliánová, and assistent prof. Gabriel Dóka (The Faculty of Pharmacy, Comenius University Bratislava), prof. Jana Plevková (The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University), doctor and assistent prof. Ivana Jochmanová (Faculty of Pharmacy, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice), doctor Zuzana Javorová Rihová (The Faculty of Medicine, Slovak Medical University Bratislava) and associate prof.
CU’s High-Tech Pavilion received the 2023 Building of the Year award

The new High-Tech Pavilion of Comenius University Bratislava received the coveted Building of the...

CU’s High-Tech Pavilion was constructed as part of the ACCORD (Advancing University Capacity and Competence in Research, Development and Innovation) project. A key investment of the project, the pavilion is the result of a cooperation between Comenius University and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), and the first such investment of the Faculty in the last 50 years.
With a floor area of almost 1,800 square metres (nearly 20,000 square feet), the pavilion will be used by the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Comenius University Bratislava (FMPI). The building contains cutting edge technologies which will enable top research, particularly in the fields of nanotechnology and advanced materials.
The pavilion is located in the existing Mlynská dolina university campus in Karlova Ves, Bratislava. The building is split into two functional units – a two-story laboratory unit containing the latest equipment which was also procured under the ACCORD project, and a three-story conference and teaching unit with lecture rooms and a new auditorium that seats 90. The two units are connected by a two-story glass-clad, transparent vestibule.
The building was designed by the architect Ján Majerský and built by KAMI PROFIT, s.r.o. owned by Milín Kaňuščák. "On behalf of our faculty, I would like to thank Professor Peter Kúš, who was CU’s and the faculty's coordinator on this project, for his great work and enthusiasm,’ said Daniel Ševčovič, dean of FMPI. "I would like to thank all of our staff who participated in the development and outfitting of the High-Tech Pavilion, which is a part of an ongoing modernization of the University's research infrastructure,’ adds Comenius University Rector Marek Števček.
The Building of the Year is a national competition whose goal is to reward high-quality construction and development and to promote quality in the construction sector of Slovakia. This year a jury of experts presented awards to laureates in ten categories, and five buildings received awards based on a public vote.
