The JFM CU hosts a wide range of international students from various countries around the world, who only occasionally meet with Slovak students.
"The primary goal of this new event was to bring together different cultures over good food, helping our students to create mutual contacts and have a pleasant time together," said the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Andrea Čalkovská.
Tobias Kunz from Germany, who is studying in the English program, revealed that they would like to make the Spring Picnic a new traditional event for the faculty, to be held regularly every year. " It is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultural variety we have at the faculty. To have fun, chat, and make new contacts. We prepared blankets so that students could sit on the grass, stalls with good food and drinks, and music playing.
Postdoctoral Position in the Field Chemical Physics

The Department of Experimental Physics offers postdoctoral position in the field chemical physics....

Offer Description
Although they belong to the group of the "simplest" molecules, small hydrogen compounds such as ammonia, methane or water play an important role in everyday physical and chemical processes on Earth and in space. In recent years, two main areas have added to this topic, motivating new research on these molecules. The first area is the discovery of exoplanets and the ability to study the composition of their atmospheres. The second, currently important area, is research into the synthesis of ammonia directly from water and nitrogen without the use of fossil fuels (production of so-called green ammonia).
To correctly analyze low-resolution absorption signals from these exoplanets or from diagnostic probes monitoring the physicochemical processes relevant to the formation of green ammonia, highly accurate spectroscopic data of interacting particles (molecules or atoms) are required. These mainly include data on the position, intensity, collision parameters of the spectral lines of the molecules present and the identification of the interacting levels.
For example, even though it has been more than a century since the first observation of NH3 spectra, they are still not well understood and described. Our project will focus on obtaining accurate reference data for small hydrogen compounds such as ammonia. This is a very topical issue also from the point of view of our team, since from this year we will directly collaborate on the creation of the HITRAN database.

Postdoctoral Position at Department of Experimental Physics

The main objective of this postdoctoral project is the study of electron–molecule ionization...

To understand the mechanisms of compound decomposition in plasma, it is essential to study the processes that are active within it. Due to the variety of processes occurring in discharges, it is challenging to investigate individual mechanisms directly in plasma. Electron-induced processes are among those present in discharges and play a significant role in plasma chemistry and decontamination.
The main objective of this postdoctoral project is the study of electron–molecule ionization reactions, which will be investigated using the crossed-beam method combined with mass spectrometry to analyze the charged products of electron-induced reactions, with CEMBIA – a crossed-beam electron–molecule instrument and with CLUSTER-ILN – an electron–cluster beam system. Additionally, electron-induced excitation processes and ion–molecule reactions may be studied as complementary experiments conducted within the same research group. All these results can provide valuable insights into the kinetics of various processes — including evaluations of relative cross sections, threshold energies, and the efficiency of individual reaction channels. Moreover, when combined with findings from the various research areas mentioned, technology optimization will contribute to the development of suitable plasma sources and devices with practical application potential.
The postdoctoral position will begin on October 1st, 2025, with a duration of one year and the possibility of extension for up to three years. We welcome candidates with skills and experience in operating experimental setups, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presenting at international conferences. Applicants are requested to send the following documents to
:

Forbes 30 Under 30 Talent at Comenius University Bratislava

Each year, Forbes magazine publishes its 30 Under 30 ranking, selecting exceptional young...

Silvester Krčméry has been associated with Comenius University since 2013, when he enrolled at the Faculty of Management, where he gradually completed his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies. At each level, he took the opportunity to study abroad, experiencing higher education in Lyon, France, and in the Spanish cities of Málaga and Valencia.
Quality Label in Human Resource Management
After completing his PhD, he began coordinating the HRS4RUK development project at the CU Rectorate. The main objective was to map the working environment for researchers at the university, identify strengths and weaknesses, and propose improvements. Together with his team, he prepared several documents, including an Action Plan, which was approved by the European Commission. In 2023, the Commission awarded CU the HR Excellence in Research Award, confirming that working conditions at the university meet all European quality standards. The work on improving the research environment continues; the quality label is not granted permanently— the European Commission can also revoke it. The Action Plan is therefore updated regularly.
Silvester Krčméry is now the Coordinator of CU's Office for Human Resources Strategy in Research and implements the activities laid out in the Action Plan. “We have developed and adopted several guidelines, for instance on plagiarism and copyright, and we have established a university-wide Doctoral School. We have organised numerous events, including an academic mentoring programme for early-stage researchers, as well as for staff returning after parental leave, and an onboarding information package for new staff, also available in English for international colleagues,” he lists the activities prepared for the academic community.
His office plans further seminars, webinars, and training sessions. Several activities from the Action Plan have also been incorporated into the university’s long-term strategy, including regular survey-based monitoring of various aspects of university life, such as satisfaction with funding and organisation, implementation of the gender equality directive, the code of ethics, and more.
Teaching at the Faculty of Management
Silvester Krčméry is also an assistant lecturer at the CU Faculty of Management, where he teaches subjects such as controlling, project management, and economics for managers. Last semester, he taught a new elective course on volunteering, allowing students to connect management theory with practice by organising various volunteer activities. During the course of one semester, he brought to life a number of interesting collaborations with non-profit organisations. He is also involved in a VEGA project researching the challenges and current trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution from the perspective of business processes, process management, strategic management, and innovation ecosystems.
Forbes and the CEE Fiscal Index
His inclusion in the Forbes ranking was also driven by his scientific work. The jury noted his long-standing involvement in a healthcare-related project. As a member of the team led by the Vice-Rector of the Slovak Medical University (SMU), he examined the fiscal impact of diseases in Central and Eastern European countries. “Professor Róbert Babeľa from SMU had data from Slovakia on multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. Using this data, we created a 'CEE Fiscal Index'. It’s essentially a feasibility analysis for modelling the impact of this disease in Central and Eastern Europe. Our aim was to assess how ready these countries are to adopt complex fiscal modelling approaches in healthcare decision-making. We consulted with doctors, insurance company representatives, analysts, gathered data, and aimed to present it clearly and understandably. Such modelling is key to understanding the economic effects of health policies and investments. Our results can also be replicated for other diseases and in other countries in the region, especially in transitioning economies where healthcare systems are still evolving. Our vision is that by improving the countries’ capacity to model fiscal consequences in healthcare, policy-makers can make more informed decisions and allocate resources more effectively,” explains Silvester Krčméry.
A Well-Organised Manager
In addition to research, teaching, and administrative and project work, Silvester Krčméry also serves as an external expert for the National Institute of Education and Youth (NIVaM) and the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), an EU agency that supports innovation across member states. He evaluates innovative projects and is the only Slovak expert reviewing million-euro research proposals in areas such as healthcare and higher education.
Where does he find time for all these activities? “The key is good time management,” he says modestly. “I conducted workshops for PhD students on this topic as part of one project, so I try to apply the same principles I taught others. I also look for synergies among different activities; many of the things I do are interconnected.”

Africa is learns about Comenius University

Bratislava, 20 May 2025 – Comenius University Bratislava (CU) continued its international promotion...

From 1 to 6 May 2025, CU toured North Africa, taking part in the international a2 Fairs in the cities of Tunis, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakesh. Nearly 6,000 prospective students visited the events.
Representatives of the university and its faculties presented the University’s portfolio of English-language study programmes. IT and management programmes attracted the greatest interest, but there was also demand for psychology, medicine and natural sciences – particularly biology and chemistry.
Applicants frequently asked about the admissions process, conditions for acceptance, and required documents. Visitors included students of all ages, from first-year to final-year secondary school students. Many were already actively considering studying abroad, and some had even taken concrete preparatory steps. For CU, this was a valuable opportunity to present study in Bratislava as an accessible and high-quality alternative.
Prospective international students can stay in touch with the University even after the fairs, communicating with the CU Infocentre via email at
or through WhatsApp at +421 905 982 835. Dozens of students from Africa and the Indian subcontinent have already used these contact options.
CU’s participation in the fairs was financially supported by the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan under the call “Support for projects promoting higher education institutions abroad.”
