JEAN MONNET PROJECTS The European Commission will support three new projects at the Faculty of Law within the Jean Monnet programme, bringing innovative education and research in the field of European law. EXTERNAL ACTION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION Principal Investigator: Prof. JUDr. Miroslav Slašťan, PhD. The project introduces a new course at the faculty, “External Action of the European Union.” Students and the professional public will focus on topics such as EU foreign policy, trade policy, security and defence policy, judicial cooperation with third countries, and climate diplomacy. The project will also include summer schools, expert publications, and an annual international conference. BEYOND THE WHISTLE: LEGAL AND HUMAN RIGHTS PERSPECTIVES IN THE EUROPEAN MODEL OF SPORT Principal Investigator: JUDr. Sára Kiššová, PhD. The aim of the project is to integrate the field of European sports law into the curriculum at the Faculty of Law of Comenius University. Students will acquire knowledge of the legal and human rights aspects of sport, thereby supporting the development of the sports environment in Slovakia and training young lawyers specialized in this socially important field. BRIDGING BORDERS, BUILDING VALUES: ENHANCING EXPERTISE IN EU EXTERNAL RELATIONS AND SECURITY Principal Investigator: Assoc. Prof. JUDr. Andrej Beleš, PhD. The project focuses on linking teaching and research in the area of EU foreign relations and security policy. It will offer new specialized courses on EU law in the field of foreign trade, security, and the European Economic Area. In addition to the academic dimension, emphasis will also be placed on social impact through conferences, round tables, and online lectures for the wider public. APVV PROJECTS The Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava has also been successful within the Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV), and starting in September 2025, it will carry out three major scientific projects. ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF BUILDINGS IN SLOVAKIA: IMPROVING THE ORGANIZATIONAL AND LEGAL FRAMEWORK IN LIGHT OF NEW EU REQUIREMENTS Principal Investigator: Prof. JUDr. Marián Vrabko, CSc. The project focuses on improving the organizational and legal framework of energy efficiency of buildings (EEB), which is an important tool for reducing energy consumption, protecting the environment, and enhancing the quality of life. In line with the new directives of the European Union, the current state of EEB legislation in Slovakia will be analyzed, comparative research with selected EU Member States will be carried out, and recommendations for more effective legislative and organizational solutions will be developed. The project will result in a set of analytical and legislative documents that can be used in public policy-making. COMPATIBILITY OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURISDICTION OF CIVIL COURTS OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Principal Investigator: Prof. JUDr. Miroslav Slašťan, PhD. The project focuses on a comprehensive examination of the international jurisdiction of civil courts of the Slovak Republic in the context of EU law and private international law. Its aim is to identify practical application problems, compare national legislation with judicial practice in other EU Member States, and propose legislative amendments to harmonize Slovak legal regulation with European standards. The outputs will include scholarly articles, a monograph, and a set of recommendations that will contribute to strengthening legal certainty in the field of international civil procedure. LEGAL AND APPLICATION ASPECTS OF THE DIGITAL SERVICES ACT (DSA) FOR THE FUNCTIONING OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION BODIES IN THE ONLINE ENVIRONMENT Principal Investigator: Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Martin Daňko, PhD. Digital platforms have become an integral part of communication by state institutions. The project examines the impact of the Digital Services Act (DSA) on the activities of public administration bodies, particularly in the areas of content publication, moderation, and monitoring the dissemination of information. The aim is to analyze the legislative framework, identify practical application issues, and prepare proposals for optimizing processes in the online environment in order to enhance the transparency and credibility of public administration. The outputs will have practical value in shaping the functioning of state authorities in the digital sphere.

Par l'intermédiaire de la direction régionale des bourses étrangères canadienne, le secrétariat d'État à l'étude et à la recherche de l’Université Laval lance un appel à la candidature pour 400 bourses d'études Canadienne au titre de l'année académique 2025-2026. Ces bourses sont destinées aux ressortissants des pays de la catégorie A (pays industrialisés européens, et extra-européens) et ceux des pays de la catégorie B (pays en développement, du tiers monde et extra -européens) elles doivent leur permettre de poursuivre leurs études, de parfaire leurs connaissances pour les travaux de recherches dans les domaines auxquels l’Université Laval accorde une attention particulière.

SPÉCIFICITÉ DE LA BOURSE:

- L’Université Laval entend faciliter l'immigration aux personnes désireuses de poursuivre leurs études et d'obtenir des diplômes d'État canadien.

- Les candidats retenus au terme de la sélection de candidatures seront insérés outre leur étude dans les secteurs sensibles de la vie économique et sociale du Canada: (santé, droit, diplomatie, communication, finance, énergie, industrie, transport, agriculture...).Cette option de l’Université Laval vise à donner une aptitude professionnelle aux boursiers pour pouvoir travailler s'ils le désirent au Canada à la fin de leur formation.

DURÉE DE LA BOURSE:

-Les bourses couvrent la période d'un cycle de formation ou au maximum six (06) semestres voir plus.

FRAIS DE VOYAGE:

Les billets d'avion aller-retour (Provenance – Canada/ Québec), sont pris en charge par la direction régionale des bourses étrangères canadienne. Conditions préalables à la candidature en règle générale, les candidats aux bourses étrangères Canadienne doivent:

- Avoir au maximum 18 ans à 58 ans;

- Comprendre et parler correctement l'une des langues d'enseignement au Canada (Anglais, Français, Espagnol, Allemand, Italien);

- Avoir un diplôme équivalent au brevet d'étude de premier cycle d'enseignement, au baccalauréat ou au brevet d'aptitude professionnelle des pays de l'union européenne.

Dr. Mária Havelková represented our faculty at the 12th GAJE Worldwide Conference, held at Lazarski University in Warsaw. The conference focused on educating lawyers with a strong sense of justice was attended by over 350 participants from 90 countries around the world. As part of the VV-MVP-24-0118 project, she gave a presentation on agenda inequality between male and female judges. In collaboration with Lucia Madleňáková, director of the Department of Clinical Legal Education at Palacký University in Olomouc, she led a workshop on the impostor phenomenon among lawyers. During the introductory training day, she led a workshop on Risk-taking and Courage in Legal Education with professors from the US and South Africa: Tim Casey (UCLA), Charisma Howell (Georgetown Law School), Lisa Radtke Bliss (Georgia State University), Catherine Klein (Catholic University), and Daven Dass (WIT Johannesburg University). During the conference, Mária Havelková was elected to the board of directors of the European Network for Clinical Legal Education (ENCLE). At the same time, she was appointed to the extended steering committee of the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE). This achievement was also supported by the fact that the Faculty of Law of Comenius University hosted the 7th ENCLE conference in 2018.

Associate Professor Matúš Mesarčík from the Institute of Information Technology Law and Intellectual Property Law at the Faculty of Law, Comenius University, is completing a five-week research stay at the University of Cambridge, where he is working at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. During his stay, he is focusing on: · providing consultation on the development of tools for the practical implementation of requirements arising from the AI Act, · conducting research on the impact of artificial intelligence on democracy as a value protected by the European Union within the framework of single digital market legislation. Dean from Indonesia Visits the Faculty of Pharmacy

During her visit, Dr. Setyaningsih met with staff members of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, who guided her through the department's facilities and presented the various research topics currently being addressed. The tour sparked stimulating discussions and promising opportunities for future collaboration in the field of pharmaceutical technology between the respective departments. At a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at CU, Professor Ján Klimas, the participants discussed the specifics of higher education in their respective countries, opened the topic of interfaculty cooperation, potential student exchanges, and the possibility of joint international grant applications. The visit of Dr. Setyaningsih to the Faculty of Pharmacy was arranged and accompanied by Dr. Andrej Kováč, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology.

DISCUSSION ON AI IN LAW: AN EXPERT MEETING WITH THE LAW FIRM SOUKENÍK – ŠTRPKA

On July 23, 2025, a meeting took place between representatives of the law firm Soukeník — Štrpka s. r. o. and members of the Department of Commercial and Economic Law at the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava. The aim of the meeting was to integrate academic knowledge with practice and to exchange experiences with the use of artificial intelligence tools in legal practice. The discussion focused on the practical challenges, benefits, and ethical issues related to the introduction of AI technologies in the legal profession. The meeting was held as part of the AILE research project – Artificial Intelligence for Legal Professions, which explores the potential of artificial intelligence in the field of law.
