The Best University in the SCImago Ranking
In this year’s SCImago Ranking, Comenius University was ranked as the best university in Slovakia. The Slovak Academy of Sciences is the best scientific institution. All sixteen Slovak universities improved their ranking from last year.
The Slovak Academy of Sciences ranks first in Slovakia, while ranking 511st overall. It is followed by Comenius University Bratislava which placed 573rd overall. Universities are institutions which perform teaching in addition to research.
The universities which reached the top quartile (25%) of the ranking all published their research in the most influential scientific journals, including Comenius University.
The SCImago ranking evaluated 4364 universities according to three sets of indicators, based on research performance (50%), innovation outputs (30%) and societal impact measured by their web visibility (20%). The current edition of the ranking measures the indicators for the period of 2016-2020.
The Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR) is unique in that it does not focus only on university-type organizations, but also includes other relevant scientific and research institutes. The SIR uses the SCOPUS abstract and citation database, which means that it gives a better representation to humanities than, for example, the Shanghai ranking. The aim of the project was not to create a ranking like THE, QS or ARWU, but to serve as a basis for comparing entities in the fields of research activity, innovation and visibility on the Internet.
