Software development in virtual and augmented reality
Abstract:
Software engineers primarily interact with source code using a keyboard and a mouse, and typically view it in a „bento box“ IDE displayed on a small number of 2D monitors. We believe that this traditional approach ignores the potential of newly emerged VR and AR technologies. The main goal of our research is to design and implement various integrations of VR and AR technologies in the software development process and evaluate their potential in the given field. In the upcoming seminar we will present our prototypes and discuss the results.

Automatic 3D Human Pose Estimation, Skeleton Tracking and Body Measurements
Abstract:
The estimation of human body pose and its measurements is an emerging problem that drives attention in many research areas. An automatic and accurate approach to address the problem is crucial in many fields of computer vision-oriented industry. We target multiple human body analysis-related tasks, including pose estimation, pose tracking, and anthropometric body measurements estimation. Similarly to other research fields, deep learning methods proved to outperform analytical strategies. We also examine various types of visual input data, including three-dimensional point clouds. Since obtaining a large-scale database of real annotated training data is time-consuming and non-effective, we propose to substitute or augment the training process with synthetically generated human body data. We will report preliminary results of our experiments within each of the stated tasks, along with the already published parts of our research.

Štipendium je možné získať na celé dva roky magisterského štúdia/ing. (uchádzači by mali byť aktuálne v 3. ročníku bakalárskeho štúdia) alebo na posledný rok Mgr. štúdia - Master 2 (uchádzači môžu byť v prvom alebo aj v druhom ročníku magisterského štúdia). Cieľom týchto štipendií je, aby sa študenti po absolvovaní pobytu vrátili do krajiny pôvodu a stali sa partnermi francúzsko-slovenskej spolupráce v oblasti, ktorú študovali. Štúdium v angličtine je možné, naše oddelenie pomôže pri hľadaní študijného programu v angličtine.

Výška štipendia je približne 1100 eur mesačne. ERASMUS Welcome Week

The February week from 06.02 – 10.02.2023 is a welcome week for Incoming Erasmus students, NSP students, and students of other exchange mobility programs under university contracts at FM UK.
The incoming Erasmus students participated at a rich week-long program starting with their immatriculation in the Aula hall of the rectorate building with welcoming speech of the director of the Erasmus+ program at the UK, they took a tour of Bratislava, a Slovak course , information sessions at the faculties and an accompanying more cheerful program organized by the ESN association.
In the summer semester, we welcomed 43 new international students and, together with the whole year studnets, they form a group of 113 incoming students from Austria, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Turkey, but also from Uzbekistan, Taiwan, Japan and Pakistan.

Monte Carlo Physarum Machine: Using interactive simulation and visualization of 3D Physarum polycephalum for mapping the Cosmic web and beyond
Abstract:
Physarum polycephalum a.k.a. 'slime mold' is an ancient organism that evolved to form efficient transport networks between food sources, usually pockets of decaying forest debris. On the largest scales of the Universe, billions of galaxies form a network of filamentary structures known as the Cosmic web. Observing the apparent similarity between these two structures, we designed Monte Carlo Physarum Machine (MCPM): a stochastic agent-based simulation of Physarum polycephalum that generates 3D scalar density maps of the Cosmic web. Validated against independent observation data, such maps now allow us to study galaxies and the Cosmic web structure that envelops them in a completely new way. Beyond astrophysics and cosmology, MCPM shows promise to help us reconstruct and visualize the latent structures in language embeddings and other high-dimensional abstract spaces. It also generates novel spatial forms with peculiar aesthetic qualities and potential applications in computational art and fabrication. In this talk I will detail the MCPM model itself, the Polyphorm software that implements it, share our scientific findings, and showcase various creative projects born out of this methodology. Dr. Oskar Elek is a computational researcher at University of California in Santa Cruz and an incubator fellow at the Open Source Program Office therein. Oskar explores algorithms that draw from complex multi-agent systems and explores their applications in astrophysics, data science, visualization, and computational art. He is the lead developer of the open-source projects Polyphorm and PolyPhy. The university welcomes 136 new Erasmus students

This summer semester, almost all Comenius University faculties will host a total of 136 students who arrive from 20 countries under the Erasmus programme. Most students arrive from Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Turkey. During the event, students could learn more about the university, and were informed of the Studia Academica Slovaca summer school at the Faculty of Arts. They could also learn about the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). The welcome ceremony takes place during the Welcome week for international students, which is organised by the Rectorate and the faculties to help the new students become a part of the university life. Events include, for example, intensive courses of Slovak, a guided tour of the city, various activities at the faculties and events organised by students themselves as part of the Erasmus Student Network of CU.
