Second-year nursing program students had the opportunity to practice their communication skills in the hospital's clinical teaching and nursing technique facilities. They focused on deploying de-escalation techniques when communicating with aggressive patients and then turned their attention to patient bed fixation techniques. A topic of particular interest for the students was the nursing care of patients with specific invasive entry points, such as PICC and PORT, which many encountered for the first time.
The workshop for first-year students was held within the premises of the University Hospital Martin. They engaged in hands-on training, replicating situations from real-world clinical nursing practice. The students practiced manipulating infusomats and injectomats, nursing care for central venous catheters and peripheral venous lines. In the third session, they learned about oral care and suctioning airways in conscious patients with tracheostomies.
Both the organizers and participating students have positively reviewed the workshop's concept and thematic specificity. The students particularly appreciated the professionalism and dedication of the nurse mentors, the opportunity for practical intervention training, and expressed interest in exploring further topics in the future. This collaborative initiative epitomizes the hospital's commitment to educating and preparing future healthcare professionals.

International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition

Students of the Faculty of Law of Comenius University Bratislava participated in the prestigious...

Students Kiana Rostami, Yevheniia Mordovtseva, Ľubica Kubíková, Eva Hamasova and Veronika Sima participated in the ICC Moot Court Competition in The Hague, the Netherlands, which took place form 2-9 June 2023.
The International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition is a major event that tests the skills of students. ICCMCC is the largest moot court in the field of international criminal law. Teams always represent three parties, the prosecution and defence, the victims or interveners in both the written and oral rounds of the competition. The competition addresses allegations of crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression. In addition to the substantive law, the disputants address issues of jurisdiction, evidence and fair trial. The competition is held annually in The Hague, the Netherlands. More than 80 teams from all over the world participated. Our team pleaded 6 times for all three parties in the main part.
We asked the student Ľubica Kubíková why she enrolled in this subject, what feelings she had during and after the competition, whether she enjoys this subject and also to whom she does not recommend enrolling in this subject.
„I first learned about Moot Court in my third year from a classmate, it seemed like a great platform to practice my legal skills in a foreign language, so I decided to apply. I chose moot court in front of an international criminal court, and the whole competition consists of two phases:(i) written part, where you have to write submissions for three parties on a specific case, followed by (ii) oral, where you via the designated speaker present your case on behalf of a specific party in front of 3 to 4 experts in the field. The competition itself was very beneficial for me personally, as I definitely improved my professional written/oral expression in English, research as well as the application of legal rules and court decisions to a specific case. As for my feelings about the overall competition, if you asked me two months ago, I would have told you never again; but now I feel just the opposite, and if I have the time I will apply again. My advice to prospective applicants if I were to give any advice would probably be two tips: (i) choose a Moot/area that you are interested in and enjoy at university, as the subject takes up a huge amount of your time that you could be spending more conveniently. There's nothing worse than putting your efforts into something that doesn't really satisfy you, (ii) think twice whether you really have the capacity, if you already have two jobs or other activities and you can barely keep up with your Moot exams, I don't recommend it. „
The successful representation of our students shows us that the subject of Moot Court brings results and develops the talents of our students. The final results will be announced by the organiser by the end of the month.

Faculty Meeting with University Hospital Martin Leadership

Keeping with tradition, the wider leadership of the University Hospital Martin and Jessenius...

This informal working breakfast, held this time within the hospital premises on June 12, 2023, tackled a number of current topics and sought joint solutions. The meeting also touched upon the project of the new hospital and the land it's set to occupy. Another topic of discussion was the Da Vinci robotic system, a recent acquisition of the faculty, currently being used for surgical, urological, and gynecological operations in the University Hospital Martin.
The dialogues extended to collaboratively organized activities such as Medgames 2023, scheduled to take place this fall and, once again, within the authentic hospital setting. The agenda also encompassed specialist and residency studies, and the possibility of submitting joint projects from current and future calls.
Maintaining cordial relations and a unified approach in various areas are critical for both institutions, and they intend to continue these collaborative meetings.

Important Progress in Medical Doctors' Education

Bratislava, 13 June 2023: Comenius University Bratislava and Bratislava University Hospital (UNB)...

The contract on practical teaching regulates the conditions of the teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates, defines the clinic and specifies the position of the clinic manager in relation to the Faculty of Medicine and the UNB. Additional aspects are regulated by the Contract on the selection of specialized educational facility managers in which the parties negotiate unified conditions of the selection procedure. The contracts were approved by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic.
Mutual relations were governed by contracts dating back to 2014 which no longer reflect the current legislation. "I am pleased that we patched this legal vacuum which has existed for a long time. We can now hold competitions for the posts of managers, whose task is to support university research and science, as well as university education. That’s where I see the greatest benefit of these updated contracts," said CU Rector, Marek Števček.
Negotiations about the contracts lasted several years. "The Faculty of Medicine cannot function without the university hospital and vice versa. The unifying element is the clinic manager who is responsible for science, research and teaching, but also for the provision of health care. The post ensures a symbiosis between the two institutions," responded Juraj Payer, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
“Comenius University and the Bratislava University Hospital jointly manage over 30 clinical sites. Every managing post must be clearly defined and the manager must be clearly appointed because this affects the operation of the entire site and the employees. The contracts ensure that the managers’ level of academic education is maintained," said UNB Director, Alexander Mayer.
The contracts also specify the mutual relationship that affects accreditation and all joint projects.
