Seminar of Graph Theory - Felix Oguagbaka (12.10.2023)

Thursday 12.10.2023 at 9:50 hod., Lecture room C

Felix Oguagbaka:
Seymour's 6-Flow Theorem
Abstract:
Tutte's 5-flow conjecture states that "Every bridgeless multigraph has a nowhere-zero 5-flow." Only partial results of the conjecture are known thus far, the closest being Seymour's 6-flow theorem, which states that "Every bridgeless multigraph has a nowhere-zero 6-flow." This talk does not introduce new results but aims to highlight some interesting proofs of Seymour's 6-flow theorem. In particular, we will discuss in detail a relatively new proof of Seymour's 6-flow theorem by Matt DeVos, Jessica McDonald, and Kathryn Nurse.

LEGAL EDUCATION – CHALLENGES AND VISIONS

THE FACULTY OF LAW AT COMENIUS UNIVERSITY IN BRATISLAVA ON THE OCCASION OF THE INTERNATIONAL...

More than 100 participants discussed the teaching methods and content of teaching at faculties of law, whether the students' sense of justice is being developed and whether they are sufficiently prepared for the high level of responsibility that the legal profession holds in society. The conference also hosted workshops focused on interactive and innovative teaching methods.
The main aim of the conference was to enhance the cooperation between higher legal education and the subsequent preparation for the practice of a specific legal profession. Therefore, it was significant that attorneys, judges, prosecutors, notaries, executors, mediators and the judicial academy were represented at the conference. Among the participants there were also lawyers working in the non-profit sector and in leading human rights organisations, including the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Slovakia and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In addition to representatives from the Faculty of Law of Comenius University, experts from the faculties of law in Trnava, Banská Bystrica, Košice, Olomouc and Prague also joined the event.
The opening panel focused on the effective interconnection of theory and legal practice and featured speeches by Eduard Burda, Dean of the Faculty of Law of CU, Juraj Vačok, Judge of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic, Linda Wáclavová, Prosecutor of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Slovak Republic, Peter Stodola, a member of the Presidium of the Slovak Chamber of Enforcement Officers, Matej Marhavý from the Slovak Bar Association, Marek Ivančo from the Academy of Justice and Viktor Hatina from Charles University in Prague. During the panel discussion, the panellists addressed, for example, the question of whether it is necessary to introduce a compulsory internship for law students and how the internship influences the future career during their studies.
The conference ended with a panel discussion on the social responsibility of lawyers, their impact on society and the provision of Pro Bono legal services. Andrea Moravčíková, Deputy Chairwoman of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, Eva Braxatorisová, Director of the Pontis Foundation's Pro Bono Attorneys Programme, and Martin Krivák - an attorney-at-law whose law firm has won the Law Firm of the Year Award in the Pro Bono category for 4 consecutive years - took the floor. In addition to the need for Pro Bono services, the discussion focused on the importance of ensuring that the service is done fully, honestly and responsibly. The author of the idea to organize a conference dedicated to the education of lawyers is Maria Havelkova, who works at the Institute of Clinical Legal Education. Dr. Havelkova is dedicated to innovative and practical forms of teaching, and her research focuses on legal aid, the unaffordability of legal services, and finding ways to motivate lawyers to provide their services Pro Bono, i.e. free of charge. The outcome of the conference will be a monograph on the social responsibility of lawyers drafted by a collective of authors led by Maria Havelková.

European Researcher's Night with JFMED

At their booth titled "Save a Child: Clearing Airway Obstructions and CPR for Young Children," the faculty showcased life-saving techniques for pediatric emergencies to the younger generation.
"With prepared child body models, attendees could try basic child resuscitation techniques after instructions," described Dr. Zuzana Biringerová, PhD. "This activity attracted an enormous interest. Presenters were literally surrounded by elementary and high school students, as well as the general public," added Dr. Lukáš Martvoň, PhD.
Contrary to the belief that today's younger generation is disinterested and often passive about their surroundings, this festival demonstrated the exact opposite. JFMED, through the efforts of the Medical Education Support Center staff, reaffirmed its indispensable role in not just professional but also public education.

Doctoral colloquium - Iveta Bečková (9.10.2023)

Monday 9.10.2023 at 13:10, Lecture room I/9

Iveta Bečková:
Towards legible motion of simulated NICO

Abstract:
In human-robot interaction, we expect the robot to act in such a way as to ensure smooth cooperation. One desirable property of a robot's motion is legibility. Motion is defined as legible if an observer is able to correctly predict the motion's goal, while doing so as soon as possible. However, training the robot to be legible with human participants is not feasible, therefore in our experiments with a humanoid robot NICO, we chose to use a neural network observer to predict goals. These predictions are then used to construct part of the reward signal for the acting agent. Training is done with a simulated model of NICO in Unity.

PROFESSOR ŠTEVČEK AND THE COLLECTIVE WIN THE PRIZE OF THE LITERARY FUND

THE LITERARY FUND AWARDED THE PRIZE TO PROF. JUDR. MAREK ŠTEVČEK, DRSC., AND COLLECTIVE FOR THE...

On October 3, 2023, the Literary Fund, Section for Scientific and Professional Literature and Computer Programmes awarded the prize for scientific and professional literature in the category of social sciences to prof. JUDr. Marek Števček, DrSc., and the collective for the work Civil Procedural Law. Introduction to Civil Procedure and Contentious procedure. The winning publication was published by C. H. Beck.
The publication is intended for the general legal community, law students, as well as practicing lawyers in a wide variety of legal professions, and thematically addresses an introduction to civil procedure and contentious procedure. Civil law is one of the traditional areas, but the recodification of civil procedural law in Slovakia has only recently been completed, so this publication is particularly up-to-date and necessary. It presents a new approach to civil procedural law in the legal system and contains extensive theoretical knowledge based on legal theory, case law and practical experience in its application. The collective of authors, consisting of the creators of the new procedural regulation, experts from theory and practice, relies on the latest knowledge of the science of civil procedural law, responds to the case law of the courts of the Slovak Republic and emphasizes the opinions of prominent representatives of Slovak law in the formulation of the individual parts and chapters.

Congratulations on the great award!
