The winners of Slovakia’s 2015 Scientist of the Year Awards include scientists from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics

On 10 May 2016 the ceremonial announcement of the results of the 2015 Scientist of the Year Awards took place in the Hall of Mirrors at the Primate’s Palace in Bratislava. Scientific experts from Comenius University’s Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics were successful in two categories.

Prof. RNDr. Tibor Hianik, DrSc., was awarded in the category of Personality of the Year in EU Programmes for his significant contribution and results in the area of developing biosensors designed for the diagnosis of prion diseases, and the monitoring of quality and the contamination of food and environmental pollution, which have been secured through EU programmes.


The Young Scientist of the Year award was won by doc. RNDr. Tomáš Plecenik, Ph.D., for exceptional research and publication activity in the physics of solid materials connected with the use of nanotechnologies in sensorics, biomaterials and super-conductive materials.


Ing. Ján Tkáč, DrSc., from the Institute of Chemistry at the Slovak Academy of Sciences became the Scientist of the Year for 2015. Assoc. Prof. Ing. Monika Rychtáriková, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava was successful in the category of Female Scientist of the Year. The Personality of the Year award in the area of technology was won by Ing. Daniel Šlosár from the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control and Geotechnologies at the Technical University of Košice.


The 19th edition of this awards ceremony was held under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska.
