SLOVAK UNIVERSITIES AND SAS SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE STARMUS FESTIVAL

20. December 2023, Bratislava: The organizers of the Starmus International Science, Music and Arts...

The seventh annual instalment of the STARMUS festival will be held in several Slovak cities from 12 to 17 May, 2024. It is brought to Slovakia by ESET, the main partner of the festival. The main events of the festival take place in Bratislava but related events will be held in other towns in Slovakia. Universities, which are a natural partner for the Starmus festival, play an important role.
"The aim of the festival is to inspire the young generation and awaken their passion for science and art. Universities and research institutions are where young research talents and leaders are already working to help humanity face the current global challenges. That's why we want to bring the Starmus festival experience directly to them. I believe that the signing of the memorandum with three Slovak research institutions is only the beginning. We are already developing cooperation with other universities," said Garik Israelian, founder of the STARMUS festival.
Starmus will bring dozens of Nobel Prize laureates, Apollo programme astronauts and world-famous musicians such as Jean-Michel Jarre or The Offspring to Slovakia. To date, eight Nobel Prize winners have already confirmed their participation: Emmanuelle Charpentier, Donna Strickland, Kurt Wüthrich, Edvard Moser, Michel Mayor, Kip Thorne, Elizabeth Blackburn and Adam Riess. Several of them will visit Slovak universities and research institutions throughout the country during the festival.
"Cooperation with the Starmus festival is a part of our effort to develop the international dimension of our university. We are proud to make Bratislava the world capital of science for a few days. Our students will have the opportunity to experience lectures by top world scientists, including dozens of Nobel Prize winners. Several world-famous personalities of science will even speak in our history-seeped Auditorium. The opportunity to meet an oft-quoted expert or a textbook author in one's field is an extraordinarily powerful academic experience," said Marek Števček, Rector of Comenius University Bratislava.
The list of speakers is available
. For more information about the Starmus festival go to
.

SIGNING MOU AND COOPERATION BETWEEN FBERG TUKE & FM UK

SIGNING MOU AND COOPERATION IN STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT, PROJECTS, INNOVATIONS AND COLLABORATION WITH...

Happy to welcome a visit from FBERG TUKE represented by the dean Dr.h.c. prof. Ing. Michal Cehlár, PhD. and prof. Ing. Juraj Janočko, PhD. from the Institute of Geosciences.
So far, vice-dean for strategic development, projects and innovation has been cooperating with the Faculty BERG, its management, employees as well as other employees for more than 10 years. We are glad that we were able officially sign the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOU) by the deans of the faculties, prof. Mgr. Peter Štarchoň, PhD., FM UK and Dr.h.c. prof. Ing. Michal Cehlár, PhD., FBERG TUKE.
As part of the negotiations, we have identified the priorities for the next period. Specifically, it concerns the management of raw materials and earth resources in 3 priority areas:
a) education
b) science and research
c) projects.
Furthermore, we set up the follow up on the upcoming projects in international consortia, but we will also continue to identify other project opportunities in the context of joint foreign mobilities that have already been implemented and invited lectures on Smart City and others.
Finally, we have paid special attention to the topic of internationalization, networking and cooperation with practice.
Finally, we are looking forward to visiting FBERG and its laboratories in Košice, but at the same time we are preparing a joint project meeting in mid-January 2024 on the grounds of FM UK with the participation of the VŠB Technical University of Ostrava as well as other workplaces.

BUCHAREST 13- 15 DECEMBER 2023

The Octopus 2023 conference, organised by the Council of Europe, took place on 13-15 December 2023 in the impressive premises of the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, with the participation of Petra Dražová, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law.
The event is one of the largest platforms in the world, bringing together, on an annual basis, cybercrime experts from more than a hundred countries, working in leading international organisations, public and private sectors, non-governmental institutions, as well as in science and research.
The main focus of this year's conference was on the provision and exchange of electronic evidence, as well as on capacity building in the fight against crimes committed through information systems.
The exchange of knowledge on national legislation, application issues as well as the latest challenges in this field took place in two plenary sessions, fourteen workshops, three project roundtables, as well as a series of inspiring talks or informal discussions in English, French and Spanish.

Student Personality of Slovakia is a national competition for 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-degree students. The event was held under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová, with the professional guarantee of the Slovak Rector’s Conference and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. This year, the expert jury selected successful students and young scientists from over 90 nominations in 13 categories. The main organiser of the project is the civic association Junior Chamber International - Slovakia, a part of one of the world’s largest organisations of young leaders. The awardees received the award at the Pálffy Palace on December 14, 2023.
In addition to the Student Personality of Slovakia award in the Pharmacy category, Katka also won the Radio Slovakia award.
Congratulations!

Seminar of Graph Theory - Babak Ghanbari (14.12.2023)

Thursday 14.12.2023 at 9:50 hod., Lecture room C

Babak Ghanbari (Charles University, Prague):
Fractional forcing number of graphs
Abstract:
The notion of "defining set" is an important concept in studying combinatorial structures. Roughly speaking, when we talk about a defining set for a particular object, we mean a part of it that uniquely extends to the entire object. As an example, a defining set for a particular perfect matching M of a graph (known as a "forcing set") is a subset of M such that M is the unique perfect matching of the graph containing it. The size of the smallest forcing sets of a perfect matching is called the "forcing number" of it.
In this talk, we introduce the notion of the forcing function of fractional perfect matchings, which is continuous analogous to forcing sets defined over the perfect matching polytope of graphs. Our defined object is a continuous and concave function extension of the integral forcing set. Then, we use our results about this extension to conclude new bounds and results about the integral case of forcing sets for the family of edge and vertex-transitive graphs, and in particular, hypercube graphs.
