SLOVAK UNIVERSITIES AND SAS SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE STARMUS FESTIVAL

20. December 2023, Bratislava: The organizers of the Starmus International Science, Music and Arts Festival established official cooperation with the research and art communities in Slovakia. During the first two weeks of december, the festival representatives signed a memorandum of understanding with Comenius University Bratislava, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The memorandum covers lectures by world-renowned scientists at these research and art institutions.

The seventh annual instalment of the STARMUS festival will be held in several Slovak cities from 12 to 17 May, 2024. It is brought to Slovakia by ESET, the main partner of the festival. The main events of the festival take place in Bratislava but related events will be held in other towns in Slovakia. Universities, which are a natural partner for the Starmus festival, play an important role.

"The aim of the festival is to inspire the young generation and awaken their passion for science and art. Universities and research institutions are where young research talents and leaders are already working to help humanity face the current global challenges. That's why we want to bring the Starmus festival experience directly to them. I believe that the signing of the memorandum with three Slovak research institutions is only the beginning. We are already developing cooperation with other universities," said Garik Israelian, founder of the STARMUS festival.

Starmus will bring dozens of Nobel Prize laureates, Apollo programme astronauts and world-famous musicians such as Jean-Michel Jarre or The Offspring to Slovakia. To date, eight Nobel Prize winners have already confirmed their participation: Emmanuelle Charpentier, Donna Strickland, Kurt Wüthrich, Edvard Moser, Michel Mayor, Kip Thorne, Elizabeth Blackburn and Adam Riess. Several of them will visit Slovak universities and research institutions throughout the country during the festival.

"Cooperation with the Starmus festival is a part of our effort to develop the international dimension of our university. We are proud to make Bratislava the world capital of science for a few days. Our students will have the opportunity to experience lectures by top world scientists, including dozens of Nobel Prize winners. Several world-famous personalities of science will even speak in our history-seeped Auditorium. The opportunity to meet an oft-quoted expert or a textbook author in one's field is an extraordinarily powerful academic experience," said Marek Števček, Rector of Comenius University Bratislava.

The list of speakers is available on this page. For more information about the Starmus festival go to Starmus.com.
