omenius University recognises outstanding students and teachers to honour the International Students’ Day
Bratislava, 20 November 2023: Nearly sixty students and teachers received a distinction that the Rector of Comenius University traditionally presents to commemorate the International Students’ Day. This is one of the ways in which Comenius University expresses its appreciation for their extraordinary effort both in study and at work.
The academic commendation is awarded by the Rector of the University to those students who achieve excellent academic results, exhibit exemplary student and civic involvement, or represent the university. This year the distinction was awarded to twenty-nine students.
Bruno Almásy who studies general medicine is one of them. He received the commendation for saving a human life by providing timely and correct first aid. Another student of medicine, Adam Rajčáni, demonstrated extraordinary dedication as a member of a testing team during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maxim Duleba, a PhD researcher in literary science received the award for his excellent study results. In the course of his study he published twenty research papers, half of which are listed in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases. He is also active as a representative of students in the ENLIGHT alliance of European universities. Another recipient, Lucia Keszeghová, studies subnuclear physics and contributed significantly to analyses carried out as part of the ATLAS experiment. Her presentation of the research results at a conference in Michigan attracted an extraordinary response.
Several students received the commendation for representing the university in sports. They also include this year's world champion in footgolf and a student of coaching and physical education teaching Lucia Čermáková or biker Kristina Madarásová – European champion and silver and bronze medallist at the World Championships.
Twenty-seven teachers also received a Letter of Gratitude of the Rector of CU for their contribution to the success of their students in science, arts and professions. They include nephrologist Ľudmila Podracká, neurosurgeon Juraj Šteňo, pharmacologist Anna Paul Hrabovská, physicist Stanislav Tokár, psychologist Andrea Madarasová Gecková and others.
"We convene on this day to remember November ‘89 as a symbol, or code, which launched history in a certain direction, and at the same time we honour those who, through their work, contribute to the incorporation of this code in the genetic makeup of our society. Through your work, attitudes and example, you are the much-needed essence of hope for a decent kind of freedom. I am sincerely grateful to you for trying to improve the world around you," said Marek Števček, Rector of Comenius University in his address to the awardees.
