COMENIUS UNIVERSITY BRATISLAVA REMAINS AMONG THE TOP 3.5% OF UNIVERSITIES WORLDWIDE
Bratislava, 3 June 2025 – According to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), Comenius University Bratislava (CU) has placed 739th, reaffirming its position among the top 3.5% of universities in the world. CU is also the highest-ranked university in Slovakia. The latest edition of the ranking evaluated more than 21,000 institutions, publishing a list of the top 2,000 universities.
The best-ranked universities in the world are Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, and University of Oxford. In addition to CU, which is the only Slovak institution in the top 1,000, the V4 region is represented by four Czech, ten Polish, and four Hungarian universities.
Alongside CU, three other Slovak institutions are included in the ranking: Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is ranked 1,555th (top 7.3%), the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava is in 1,673rd place (top 7.8%), and the Technical University of Košice ranks 1,960th (top 9.2%).
CWUR is one of the largest academic rankings of global universities. It has evaluated institutions since 2012, focusing on four key areas: education quality (25%), employability (25%), quality of faculty (10%), and research performance (40%).

Comenius University Bratislava is the only Slovak university to appear in all major global rankings. In the QS World University Rankings 2025, it ranked between 661st and 670th place. In the 2025 Round University Ranking, it placed 475th. In the 2025 CWUR (Center for World University Rankings ) ranking, it was ranked 739th, placing it among the top 3.5% universities globally. The ARWU (Shanghai Ranking) placed CU in the 901st–1000th place band. In the prestigious Best Global Universities ranking, CU holds 718th place and ranks 277th in physics. The SCImago ranking lists it at 1,187th place. In the NTU (National Taiwan University) Ranking, it is placed between 951st and 1000th place, and in physics, it ranks between 351st and 400th place globally. In the 2024 Three University Missions MosIUR ranking, CU is 278th, while the THE Impact Rankings places it in the 601st–800th place band. In THE WUR ranking, CU is in the 1201st–1500th place range. The RankPro World University Ranking places CU at 181st place. In the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), CU ranks between 401st and 500th place in physics. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject, CU is placed between 601st and 650th in medicine and 601st and 675th in physics.
