On 19 and 20 May 2025, the Faculty of Law of Comenius University Bratislava hosted a  meeting of members of IMPEL (European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law). The event was held within the framework of the GIECA (Geospatial Intelligence for Environmental Compliance Assurance) project, which focuses on the use of modern geospatial technologies - such as drones and satellites - in detecting and documenting illegal activities threatening the environment.

Foreign experts in the field of environmental surveillance and intelligence discussed opportunities for more effective enforcement of environmental law through innovations in technological monitoring and cross-border cooperation.

At the beginning of the meeting doc. JUDr. Martin Blažek, PhD. and JUDr. Michal Michalovič, PhD. presented our faculty and its research activities in the field of environmental and climate law. They paid special attention to the current project APVV-23-0645 on "Optimization of sanction mechanism in the field of environmental protection and increase of its efficiency", which focuses on increasing the effectiveness of legal instruments for environmental protection in the Slovak context.

The meeting was an exceptional opportunity for international exchange of experience and presented the Faculty of Law of CU as an active and engaged workplace in the field of environmental law.
