OUR STUDENTS BRING THREE SILVER AND A BRONZE FROM BRNO!
ON 19 SEPTEMBER 2024, MASARYK UNIVERSITY IN BRNO
At the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University in Brno yesterday (19. 9 2024) the Czech-Slovak round of the ŠVOČ (Student Scientific Professional Activity) took place, where we were represented by 11 students (Adam Briešt'anský, Lýdia Jakubjaková, Emma Humeňanská, Karolína Ozimyová, Daniel Richter, Dominika Krištofičová, Michael Kunst, Barbora Bodíková, Dávid Školník, Vivienn Üvegesová and Mária Krakovská), three of them online, and 7 teachers as members of the committees (prof. Ján Svák, doc. Marek Kordík, Ing. Albert Priehoda, Dr. Renáta Kišoňová, Dr. Sandra Meňhartová, Dr. Kristína Slámková and prof. Ján Škrobák).
Four "medals" from the competition, where students from eight Czech and Slovak law faculties presented their work in eight sections, made this year's edition of the Czech-Slovak round probably the most successful since the restoration of the "ŠVOČ".
The award winners were:
ADAM BRIEŠŤANSKÝ - 2nd place in the section Theory of Law, Constitutional Law, Human Rights (thesis topic Human Rights Aspects of Punishing Extremist Symbolism, consultant prof. Prof. Tomáš Ľalík)
Bc. DANIEL RICHTER - 2nd place in the section Criminal Law (thesis topic: Effectiveness of the ultima ratio principle in relation to the principle of proportionality, consultant prof. Eduard Burda)
Bc. BARBORA BODÍKOVÁ - 2nd place in the section Administrative Law, Financial Law, Social Security Law and Environmental Law (thesis topic: Appropriateness of the age limit of liability for administrative offences and criminal liability, consultant: Dr. Mária Havelková)
KAROLÍNA OZIMYOVÁ - 3rd place in the section Theory of Law, Constitutional Law, Human Rights (thesis topic World Cup, Qatar 2022: the visibility of Qatar in the football world or well-planned sportswashing?, consultant prof. Tomáš Ľalík).
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT REPRESENTATION! We are pleased that although the core of our representatives were current fifth year students, two of the awards were won by colleagues from the Bachelor's study programme, and that also creates the promise of continuity in future years.
Thank you to our other young scientists, you were all excellent!
Of course, we also thank the consultants; and we thank our friends from the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University in Brno for their excellent handling of organizing such a big event in a hybrid format during the flood situation, when their university was forced to postpone the start of the semester.
If you consider taking part in the Student Scientific Professional Activity Competition this year, you will find it interesting to know that next year the Czech-Slovak round will be held in Moravia again, but this time a little further to the north - at the Faculty of Law of Palacký University in Olomouc. Take part in the ŠVOC, we are looking forward to it!
