Financial innovations - a determinant of current and anticipated regulation on the financial market (challenges and risks)

On 28 November 2024, the Faculty of Law of Comenius University hosted a hybrid (on-site and online) international scientific conference entitled Financial innovations - a determinant of current and anticipated regulation on the financial market (challenges and risks). The event was organized by the Department of Financial Law within the interdisciplinary project VEGA No. 1/0212/23.
The conference was at the same time the outcome of a long-term cooperation between the Faculty of Law of Comenius University and the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), which is formally anchored by a Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation. The event also provided space as an educational activity for NBS employees.
Up to 80 participants registered for the conference, of which more than 20 were included in the program with a paper. The remaining 60 participants attended passively, mostly online. They were dominated by professionals from the NBS environment, but also included representatives from the
The conference agenda focused on the latest trends in the financial services sector and its regulation. In particular, attention was paid to financial innovations based on FinTech technologies. Among the topics presented, there was no shortage of regulator's perspectives, practical experience, analysis of the use of crypto assets in the world, and the ethical requirements of the Catholic Church on investing.
Despite the fact that the event had to be prematurely ended due to an announced security threat, the conference lived up to expectations with its expert content and original contributions. The presentations were of a high professional standard and made a unique contribution to the debate on the future of financial market regulation.
