Comenius University received accreditation according to new standards
On 16 May 2024, the Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education adopted a decision that the Internal System of Comenius University and its implementation are in accordance with the Internal System Standards. This means that CU has obtained accreditation according to the new standards.
The decision marks the culmination of a process which took several years and to which all parts and facilities of the University contributed. The agency assessed the documents submitted by CU, and an expert working group visited its faculties and facilities. The agency then developed an evaluation report, in which it evaluated compliance with the standards and formulated recommendations for further improvement. When adopting the decision, the executive board of the agency studied the provided documents and considered CU’s response to the evaluation report. The final step in the process was the decision that CU’s internal system was compliant with the Internal System Standards.
"Developing and introducing an internal higher education quality assurance system was an extremely demanding process that took us several years. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to bringing this process to a successful conclusion. After obtaining the accreditation, we will have more freedom to change our existing study programmes and propose new ones, which is a big step forward compared to the current system which requires the approval of all such requests by an accreditation commission. I believe that this decision will also be an important step towards making the study at Comenius University more attractive," said the Rector Marek Števček.
The Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education expects that CU will continuously strive to improve the quality of its higher education. The agency will continue to oversee the compliance with the standards.
Comenius University is now accredited to create, implement and modify study programmes in:
a) in the study field of biology, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
b) in the study field of biotechnology in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
c) in the study field of chemistry, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
d) in the study field of ecology and environment, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education
e) in the study field of economics and management, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
f) in the study field of pharmacy, in the combined 1st and 2nd level and in the 3rd level of higher education,
g) in the study field of philology, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
h) in the study field of philosophy, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
i) in the study field physics, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
j) in the study field of historic sciences, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
k) in the study field informatics, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of higher education,
l) in the study field of speech therapy and therapeutic pedagogy, in the 1st, 2nd, combined 1st and 2nd levels and in the 3rd level of higher education,
