Comenius University students have organized another edition of the University Wishing Tree charity project
Bratislava, 12 December 2017: For the third time, Comenius University students are organizing the University Wishing Tree charity project, which is aimed at helping children in children’s homes as well as people in social housing and crisis centres.
This year Comenius University students managed to collect more than 300 Christmas wishes, which have been hung over the last week on trees at all twelve Bratislava-based faculties; the Faculty of Management and the Faculty of Pharmacy have a joint tree in the lobby of their building at Odbojárov 10.
In addition to those at the faculties, there is a wishing tree located at the entrance hall of the Ľ. Štúr dormitory in the Ľudovít Štúr Campus-Mlyny as well as one at the University Cultural Centre in Mlynská dolina.
“The wishes are in the form of colourful Christmas decorations and can be taken by students and employees of the university. Then they should follow the instructions written on the posters near the tree. After registration on the university web page, the gift-giver will receive an email with specific instructions. Then it is just a matter of them fulfilling the wish,” said the project’s coordinator and Faculty of Arts graduate, Monika Firbasová.
This initiative of the students’ part of the Comenius University Academic Senate was welcomed and supported by Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta: “I am very glad that in the hustle and bustle of Christmas and the fulfilling of academic obligations, our students will not forget about those who are dependent on the help of others. I am confident that with the activity of our university’s students and staff, this Christmas will be all the more happy and cheerful for even more people.”
Most wishes are of a material nature: games, books, and clothing. Sometimes, however, there are non-material wishes and even wishes to help others. “Some wishes are very modest. It is now up to the gift-giver to show their creativity, get into the Christmas spirit, and help someone have some lovely holidays,” said Firbasová.
This year’s University Wishing Tree is taking place at Comenius University from 4 to 22 December 2017.
